Spokesperson for the KZN Emergency Medical Services, Robert Mckenzie, says paramedics treated the injured on scene - before transporting them to a local hospital.
"The exact cause of the crash is not known at this stage, and is going to be investigated by police," he said.
Meanwhile, Reaction Unit South Africa's Prem Balram was on the scene, and says the truck also crashed into a taxi and car.
Balram says the the truck driver and conductor then tried to flee the scene - but were accosted by a group of bystanders.
"An angry mob then assaulted him severely. Paramedics had to treat him for assault injuries, as well as injuries he sustained during the accident. Police arrived a short while later to cordon-off the area and open a case of culpable homicide - death by accident. The girl was 23-years of age- she was accompanied by her mother. She was walking to a pedestrian gate at the shopping complex, when the truck ploughed through the gate and killed her instantly," he said.
Police are investigating.
