PICS: Durban experiences Supermoon eclipse

Sky watchers have been treated to a Super Blood Moon - a rare celestial event visible across most of the world.

A total lunar eclipse combined with a supermoon made the moon appear brighter, closer to Earth and a rusty red colour.

The celestial show is the result of the sun, Earth and a larger-than-life, extra-bright moon lining up for just over an hour.

The combination has not been seen since 1982 and is unlikely to happen again for another 18 years.

It has been visible in other parts of the world including North and South America, Europe as well as parts of Asia.

Durban residents have shared images of the once in a generation event. See below.
