Oscar's family surprised at release
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
Oscar Pistorius' family says they were just as surprised as the public by the Paralympain's early release from prison yesterday.
Family spokesperson, Annelise Burgess briefed the media a short while ago outside Pistorius' uncle's home in Pretoria.
Pistorius was only expected to be released from the Kgosi Mampuru II today.
He will serve the remainder of his five-year sentence under house arrest.
The athlete was sentenced almost a year ago after being convicted of culpable homicide after shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
Burgess emphasised that the sentence has not been reduced.
"He'll serve this under the strict conditions that govern correctional supervision. The family will support Oscar as he serves out the remainder of the five-year sentence handed down by the trial judge and he'll strictly adhere to the conditions set by the Parole Board and Community Corrections," she said.
