Alleged Inanda cop killers drop bail bid
Updated | By Alleged Inanda cop killers drop bail bid
The three men accused of murdering an Inanda police officer have abandoned their bail application in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court.
Sabelo Mkhize, Siboniso Kwibisa and Lindokuhle Mchunu allegedly overpowered two officers and stripped them of their uniforms before bundling them into the back of their own police vehicle last month.
The three through their Legal Aid representative Thobile Chili allege that they were assaulted by a "flood of policemen" who came to their cells at the Greenwood Police Station on Tuesday.
Chili says while all three sustained injuries, accused one suffered the most severe with an open wound to his right ear, damage to his lungs and internal bleeding affecting his kidneys.
They also allege that they were denied medical attention. Magistrate Sphamandla Mchunu noted their submissions saying they have the right to open a case - as no one is permitted to take the law into their own hands.
Mchunu further approved their request to be transferred to Westville Prison and referred accused number one to the hospital section of the prison to seek urgent medical attention.
The matter's been postponed to next month for further investigation.
