What's on in Durban
Updated | By Staff Writer
Goldfish is coming to town, plus the incredible Desmond and The Tutus boys. Mix that with a night market and good weather expected, and it looks like this weekend is going to be another goodie here on the east coast.
FRIDAY 27 FEBRUARY
ArtSwap @ The Factory Café
The mayhem which is ARTSWAP kicks off at 6pm at the Factory Café on Friday the 27th of Feb. The space is ample to house this celebration of photography, canvas, illustration, design, poetry and good old rock ‘n roll.
The idea is simple: bring something along. Something you’ve made, whether it be a doodle, painting, photograph, illustration, poem or short story, even a piece of hand made clothing, we don’t really mind what it is, just as long as it’s yours.
Put it down on the communal table and take a piece from someone else. You don’t even have to put your name on it; the act of creating is what we want. You’ll score 10 bucks off the door price if you do! And leave with an awesome new piece.
For all the deets visit their Facebook event page.

Morningside Night Market @ Morningside Sports Club
Soak in the later lazy summer days with a night market this Friday night, a wide range of fresh organic produce, quality clothing, flowers, wholesome cuisine, festive bar, live music, decadent sweet treats and kids’ activities for all ages. For more info email: [email protected]

DurbaNite Race @ Moses Mabhida Stadium
The DurbaNite Race aims to bring the city back to life. They even admit running in the city in at night is a little sketchy when done solo, so what better way to explore the city at night? The idea is to don your brightest workout gear to make the city glow. It’s a 5km route that will start and finish at the Moses Mabhida Stadium (People’s Park) with the race meandering through the inner city streets, showcasing some of Durban’s heritage sites and landmarks (mostly with the 10km at a later stage). Sounds like fun for the whole family. For all the deets on how to register go here.

SATURDAY 28th FEBRUARY
Desmond & the Tutues @ LIVE
What better way to spend-month end than with Desmond and the Tutus at LIVE? Their big hit Pretoria Girls is causing a stir across the country so it’s high time us Durban girls show them a thing or two. They’re super fun to watch live so if you’re over 18 definitely make your down to LIVE THE VENUE. The damage is only R60 and doors open at 8pm. But hang on…I have two double tickets to give away! Mail me with your name, ID number and contact number at buttons4001@gmail.com with the subject line Desmond & The Tutus if you’re feeling lucky!

Goldfish @ Durban Botanic Gardens
Music at the lake ‘Saturday Night Live’ is getting pretty serious with their line-ups. This weekend Goldfish will be performing at our gorgeous Botanic Gardens. If that’s not enough, Crazy White Boy are their supporting act, plus there’ll be Durban DJs mixing up the decks. There is food and drink available there, with craft beer on tap…if you needed an extra nudge. Tickets range from R60 – R140 and you can book through Webticket here.

SUNDAY 1 MARCH
Sax On The Beach @ Wahoo’s
The Meditators have taken a well-deserved break from their famous Sunday performances at Wahoo’s on Ushaka beach. This week Andrew Young will be on stage with some mad saxophone skills. He has played with the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with local musical greats such as Joseph Shabalala from Ladysmith Black Mambazo and James Galway.
Entrance is always free and you’ll be promised an afternoon of chilled vibes, the Durban way.
