Our pick for the weekend

It's another busy weekend in Durban. Take a look at our pick of where to be and what to do

Friday:
Yum Yum party @ Uber Zulu

I’ve been a huge fan of yum yum events; these boys always throw a good party. For their third party of 2013 they’ll be at Uber Zulu with some very interesting Durban artisans. They are talking about a Dirty Collective photo booth, live art, surfboards and Durban dj’s. R50 gets you in, and doors open at 6pm.

The Incidentals @ Amsterdam

Hezron Chetty and Matt Wilson are hands down my favourite muso duo. They are both sweet tempered and incredibly modest guys who combine the guitar and violin to create music for the soul. Get yourself down to Amsterdam in Davenport road to catch the launch of their brand new EP. Starts at 8pm and there is no cover charge.

Summer Blues Friday @ LIVE

The clever kids at LIVE make sure us Durbanites get a good weekly fix of live music and this Friday is no different. If you groove to the blues then join local blues boys, Bobby & The Dynamites, Gloucester Blues Project and East Coast Basement Blues Band.

Tapas @ The Corner Café

Glenwood’s coolest restaurant is adding some flavor to Friday night with and incredible tapas spread. Rest assured Judd Campbell the café owner has a knack for making you feel right at home while his chefs rustle up chorizo fueled yummy bits. Plus there’s live music. You have to, have to book a table though. So call him 031201 0219. P.S. it’s R75 per person.

Saturday:
Quiksilver have teamed up with Movember to put on a retro inspired surf event. All proceeds from the event go to CANSA and you’re all invited. Beach Bums in Westbrook will be hosting the day of vintage fun. Definitely dress up because there are prizes for the best dressed Man of the Mo and Mo sista. Quiksilver’s Dane Patterson has assured me there is no rain expected for Saturday so grab the kids and watch some of Durban’s best surfers take it back to the old school. Entrance is fee and there’s a 23-seater bus from Umhlanga for anyone who needs a ride. For more details look here

Sunday:

Head down to the Imbizo lawns at Moses Mabhida for a very special edition of I Heart Market. The Market will run from 10am-3pm and there will be some live bands playing. A spot of outdoor shopping, a flatbread to share and some good tunes is exactly how every Durbanite should spend their Sunday.
