Mandela Day: get involved!

Every year on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, South Africans are called to contribute 67 minutes of community service. Here are some ideas of how you can get involved in KZN.

Nelson Mandela Day is designed to honour Madiba’s legacy of devotion and service to others by showing our commitment to making the world a better place as we harness collective energy to build our communities.

It’s a heartfelt call to action to take the first small steps to follow in his footsteps.

“By giving a little of your time to make a change that's close to your heart or by giving a little of your time to make a difference to the life of someone else, you can start changing the world around you … Start with what you are passionate about and where you know your actions will have a lasting impact,” says the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Still not sure how to get involved? Here are a few ideas on how you can contribute 67 minutes of your time towards the global movement for good in KZN.

1. Be a hero and save a life. SANBS has set a target of 200 pints of blood and 67 donors for the Sunflower fund.  Get down to 15 Ennisdale Drive, Kensington Square, Durban North from 8am to 6pm and support this life-saving cause. Contact: 031 564 6070

3. Join the rainbow nation transformation at the Durban Botanic gardens! 6. The AJNA Foundation Team will be dedicating 67 minutes on the morning of 18 July 2014 toward the upkeep of the Beacon Ridge Primary School - a school in the heart of Chatsworth, Durban, in severe need of funds.  The Foundation will also host a 67-minute Indian Classical Dance Program on the evening of the 18th July 2014 at Howard College, UKZN, in Durban.
