Credit card fraud in SA still a major problem

Credit card fraud stats for South Africa in the banking sector remain a cause for concern according to figures just released by the SA Banking Risk Information Centre.

Credit card fraud losses in 2014 increased by 23% and false application fraud rose from R6.2m in 2013 to R78.3m in 2014. SABRIC says fraud continues to present a threat to the banking sector, the business and the consumer. MasterCard though has revealed fraud levels around their bank cards had decreased significantly, adding that Chip and PIN or EMV technology have been key to this shift.

101 arrests in KZN for sexual offences

Well done to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal who've arrested 101 suspects for sexual related offences including kidnapping, abduction, domestic violence, contravention of protection orders and rape cases in the province. The arrests were made over just 6 days earlier this month during which time 12 convictions were secured around KZN after the suspects were found guilty of sexual related offences.
