But as more people head out to hunt, we have one very important message:

Play the game. Play it safe.

We are seeing people heading to locations mentioned in clues, while others are making their own assumptions about where the Fugitive could be.

That's part of the fun of the hunt — but your safety, and the safety of everyone around you, comes first.

The East Coast Radio Fugitive team will never ask you to put yourself or anyone else in danger to make a capture.

Know when active gameplay is happening

Active gameplay is from 06:00 to 17:00.

The clues are designed to guide you towards where the Fugitive may be during an active gameplay period.

If you don't have a current clue pointing you somewhere, don't put yourself at risk trying to guess where he might be.

Be safe on the road

If you're following the hunt:

  • Don't speed or drive recklessly.
  • Don't use your phone while driving.
  • Don't make sudden U-turns or dangerous manoeuvres because you think you've spotted him.
  • Park legally and safely before getting out of your vehicle.
  • Be aware of pedestrians, other motorists and people around you.

No prize is worth putting yourself or someone else in danger.

Think before you approach someone

You may think you've spotted the Fugitive — but remember, a clue does not mean every person who matches part of it is the Fugitive.

Don't chase someone because you think they look suspicious.

If you genuinely believe you've found him, approach calmly, safely and lawfully and ask:“Are you the East Coast Radio Fugitive?”

That's it.

❌ The capture is NOT physical

A capture is verbal.

You do not need to:

  • Chase him
  • Grab him
  • Touch him
  • Block him
  • Corner him
  • Restrain him
  • Follow him into a restricted area
  • Harass him or anyone around him

Do not put yourself, the Fugitive or members of the public in danger.

If you can't safely approach, don't.

Follow the clues — don't create your own chase

The clues are there to help you work out where the Fugitive could be.

But please don't turn assumptions, social media speculation or unverified sightings into a reason to rush somewhere.

Listen to East Coast Radio. Follow the active clues. Use common sense.

And remember, there may be other people going about their normal day who have absolutely nothing to do with the hunt.

And remember the bounty

The R400,000 is the total bounty pool for the hunt, with multiple captures and winners taking place throughout the campaign.

There is no need to take unnecessary risks to be the person who gets there first.

Have fun. Follow the clues. Look out for one another.

The East Coast Radio Fugitive is a game. Let's keep it that way.
