How you can make a difference this World AIDS Day

This year, the South African campaign theme is "Count me in, together moving a non-violent South Africa forward" and it is a great time for you to do your bit, this is exactly how you can make a difference.

World aids day

Today is World AIDS Day, and it falls during the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.

This takes place from November 25, to December 10 every year.

In 2012/2013 a report from the South African Police Services said that of all the sexual offences reported in South Africa, 50% involved an offence against women and 40% against children. These stats are far too high; we need to aim for 0%.

This year, the South African campaign theme is "Count me in, together moving a non-violent South Africa forward" and it is a great time for you to do your bit, but how exactly can you get involved?

You can donate to a rape crisis campaign, highlight good and bad service delivery, and seek help by calling the Stop Gender Based violence helpline on 0800150150.

It is also important that you know your rights, and talk to the people in your life about violence and encourage them to be part of the solution and not the problem.
