Too close for comfort? KZN woman's relationship with boss concerns colleague
Updated | By Damon Beard
In a professional working environment, there has to be a line drawn between a colleague and a boss. One KZN woman has shared her growing concern over her colleague's relationship with her superior.
Listen to Tuesday's debate about this colleague's relationship with her boss, or read the details under the podcast.
You spend most of your time with your colleagues and boss, so it's natural to form a relationship with them, but with every relationship comes boundaries, and crossing those boundaries could mean trouble. Remember, your colleagues are always watching.

I received the following message from a KZN woman who is concerned by the relationship that her colleague and boss share with each other. She also sent in proof of why she's worried about their relationship.
Check the message and the picture she sent us on the WhatsApp line below:
Howsit Damon. So I am a bit concerned about my colleague and her boss' relationship. I worked late recently and had to accept a delivery on behalf of her. I was shocked beyond words. He bought her designer perfume and a huge red box with treats inside. It is not the first time that he has spoilt her with gifts. And it is not even her birthday. She is always in his office, and they are always hugging each other in the corridors. Should there not be a line drawn between a colleague and a boss? Is this not inappropriate behaviour for the workplace?- Anonymous

I mean, on one hand, the person may genuinely just be appreciating something the boss has done for them and is showing gratitude in the form of a gift, but on the other, any gift given could be perceived by co-workers as the person 'schmoozing' up to the boss, seeking favouritism or promotion.

Maintaining a professional relationship in the workplace is essential as it makes for a conducive working environment. To avoid unnecessary issues, my advice is to keep things above board and professional, don't you agree?
