Shop owner takes matters into own hands after receiving bad review

A video of a shop owner assaulting a customer has angered many on social media and prompted Damon to get KZN's thoughts on bad customer reviews.

How many of us book a hotel room and then check every available website under the sun to read reviews and see we’re not going to be checking into a dump? These days, it's imperative to check online or on social media about reviews and experiences that others have had with establishments.

Bad reviews must surely be a hotel owner, or in fact any service provider’s, worst nightmare. According to UNILAD, this was the case for a shop owner in China who took it upon himself to travel quite a distance to assault a woman who left a bad review online about his shop. Unfortunately for her, she was left needing hospital treatment after he attacked her.

The woman ordered clothes online but complained when her items arrived four days late. A security camera caught the footage of the woman as she waited at a delivery spot for the clothes she had ordered, but instead, the shop owner arrived and launched a sickening attack on her, kicking and even slapping her. It is reported that the shop owner wanted to 'teach her a lesson'. Pathetic!

I also recently read a story about a man who was nearly beaten to death after writing a bad restaurant review. What?!

So often on social media, I see on a daily basis many customers and guests who take to the platform to complain about their bad experiences. Personally, I don't see a problem with reviews as long as it's done in a constructive manner. Naturally, I've had a few of my own bad experiences, but I choose the route of contacting the establishment concerned to air my views and express my concerns. That's just me, but I know that not everyone thinks like me.

So with the above attack in mind, should the public be able to just write reviews or should they have to go through some sort of process before they’re allowed to be published?

Do you specifically go and check out establishments' reviews before visiting or using their service? Let me know below.
