KZN parents weigh in on teenagers drinking at home

 KZN is divided on whether or not it is a good idea to allow your kids to drink alcohol at home.

KZN chats allowing your teens to consume alcohol at home:

Many parents believe that it is responsible parenting to introduce teens to alcohol at home, as opposed to them drinking away from home with no supervision and guidance. Numerous celebrities have come under fire for enjoying a drink with their underage children at home. 

The argument is that it is better for them to learn their limits with people they can trust, instead of possibly binge drinking and not being able to handle themselves when out with friends. 

We placed this question on our social media accounts, and the response was divided, with people citing that early drinking could lead to alcoholism and others saying that they are pro this form of parenting.

In 1989, Drew Barrymore appeared on the cover of People Magazine under the banner 'America's Youngest Addict'. At the time a child actress, she was introduced to marijuana, alcohol, and cocaine by her parents. At the age of 12, she was doing this on her own. 

In an interview with Today in 2018, Barrymore revealed that her days of wild partying and cocaine use are long behind her, and she has no nostalgic feelings for that time. 

Kids health suggests talking to your children from as early as 3 to 4 so that they do not associate drinking with a coping mechanism for life's problems.
