Durban man uses the power of mobile to tell compelling stories
Updated | By Damon Beard
Equipped with his mobile device and social media, Yusuf Omar is changing the way stories are being told.
He’s what you’d call a mobile journalist and when you watch his content, you’d have to agree that his videos and ideas are new, fresh, and exciting.
His name is Yusuf Omar and after a world tour, traveling to over 25 countries, he’s returned back home to South Africa to launch a project called Hashtag Our SA.

Medium reports that his new initiative aims to create a news network of some sort by using just a mobile phone and the power of social media to tell stories in all eleven official languages of South Africa.
The UK School of Journalism reports that mobile journalism is when journalists and reporters use their mobile devices to tell stories to audiences, adding that not only does it save money but also saves a lot of time.
Yusuf has also been a Mobile Editor at the Hindustan Times, and was also the Former Senior Social Media Reporter at CNN International. Pretty impressive!
