I love being in Durban during the festive season. Even though it’s a time where the heat is at its worst, there’s just a certain festive buzz in the air. I absolutely love it!

If you find yourself visiting KZN this holiday season – or are a local who wants to get outside, just like bacon goes with eggs and salt goes with pepper, there are certain attractions that just go with the word 'Durban'.

Of course there are a ton of things to see and do, but unfortunately, I had to limit myself to tell you about five top attractions which I recommend you see.

 uShaka Marine World

This unbelievable marine theme park offers guests an unforgettable experience - and whether you pop in to see the marine life at Sea World, zip down the water slides at Wet 'n Wild, or meet one of the dolphins during an animal encounter - you're guaranteed to have the best time ever, trust me!

Moses Mabhida Stadium

The SkyCar ride to the top of the arch is one of Durban’s prized attractions or if you're looking for something a bit more daring, walk the 500 steps to the sky platform on the Adventure Walk. There are also Segway Tours and not forgetting the world's only stadium Big Swing, along with a variety of shops and restaurants.

The Durban Botanic Gardens

Bet you didn’t know that the gardens are the oldest surviving botanic garden on the African continent and Durban's oldest public institution? It was developed in 1849 as a botanic station for the trial of agricultural crops. Today it’s part of a network of gardens across the world and focuses on areas such as education, heritage, and research. Not forgetting the rare plants, flowers, and birds. It’s a real sight for sore eyes.

Zulumoon Gondolas

Treat yourself to a magical gondola ride at night down the Durban Point Waterfront Canal. Sit back, relax, and take in the stunning lights and bridges as you slip away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. It’s the perfect thing to help create some memories with your better half or even take the kids along to enjoy.

The Victoria Street Market

The Victoria Street Market, on the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets, allows you to step into another world. You can find everything here – including me from time to time. Enjoy everything and anything from all cultures spanning from African to Indian. Take in the smell of the spices and incense while you pass through over 170 stalls.

It’s ultimately your choice of what you want to do whilst visiting sunny KZN. However, take it from a true Durbanite like me – if you visit any one of these attractions, you’re bound to have a holiday that you’ll never forget. Happy exploring!
