Jane’s heart-warming Toy Story moment
Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
This is the incredibly moving moment that Jane experienced during the #ECRToyStory cavalcade.
Yesterday I was up bright and early to hit the road and deliver toys to hospitals along the East Coast.
As we arrived at Addington Hospital I could feel the knot of anxiety in my stomach.
With bags packed full to the brim with Melissa & Doug toys we dispersed through the wards.
My heart sang as little faces beamed with excitement, you could feel the energy change as we sang Christmas carols and handed out toys.
Onwards we went to King Edward, R.K Khan and Prince Mshiyeni in Umlazi.
For the most part it was a really happy day but of course there were those children that shook me to my core.
I am always so saddened when meeting children that are healing through severe burn injuries, it just seems like something that could so have been avoided.
My heart wept seeing the endless empty chairs at the side of their little beds.
Just before we left our last hospital there was a little girl who was so desperately ill her arms and legs were just mere bone, one of the volunteers asked her mom if she could pray for her, in that moment she took the child's hands in hers, with the mothers hands and started to pray.
Those around the bed collected closer, it was the most powerful and emotional moment. I couldn't hold back my tears. The love, faith and compassion overwhelmed me.
I crashed into bed last night after a full and rewarding day.
Thank you again for your contribution and affording me the opportunity of being a messenger of love.
