There’s something special about bringing home a brand-new car. For many families, it’s a moment worth celebrating.

But as exciting as it is, many parents also become extra protective of their new purchase. Suddenly, there are strict rules about eating in the car, touching certain buttons or even getting in with dirty shoes.

A hilarious video making the rounds on social media perfectly captures this experience.

The clip shows a father proudly driving his new car while doing everything possible to keep it spotless.. The seats are still wrapped in plastic, the dashboard remains covered, and his three children sit quietly in the back wearing plastic coverings and gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints or dirt inside the vehicle. Even the father is wearing gloves as he drives.

The viral video, captioned “When you get your first brand new car after a looong wait 🤣 💔,” has been viewed more than two million times and has left social media users in stitches.

Many people admitted they could relate, while others couldn’t resist making jokes.

Some of the funniest reactions included:

  • “We gotta make sure the beast stays clean.”
  • “I’m never removing those nylons until five years later.”
  • “New car owners don’t play at all. The whole family is in full PPE like they’re transporting the national treasury.”
  • "It's not to that extent, but there are quite a few people like that, right? People who have shoes just for inside the car and demand you change into them when you get in."
  • “He should also cover the car from the rain!”
  • One user joked that they used to do the same thing with a new pair of slippers, refusing to wear them because they looked too beautiful.
  • Another added: “Everyone must be brand new and covered so the car stays brand new.”

The video has resonated with many people who remember the extra care their parents took, or still take, when bringing home a new vehicle.
