ICYMI: SASSA urges SRD beneficiaries to verify details before May payments
Updated | By Stacey & J Sbu
SASSA has urged SRD grant beneficiaries to check their payment status before payouts begin between 24 and 30 May. Here’s how to check your status.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is encouraging all Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiaries to check their payment status ahead of the upcoming May payout period.
According to SASSA, SRD payments are expected to be processed in batches between 24 and 30 May, meaning not everyone will receive funds on the exact same day.
So before refreshing your banking app every 14 seconds, it might be worth checking your status first.

Beneficiaries can check their SRD status in several ways:
- Via the official SASSA website
- On WhatsApp by sending “Hi” to 082 046 8553 and following the prompts
- By dialling 1203210# or 1347737# on your cellphone
- Or by calling the toll-free SASSA call centre on 0800 60 10 11
Once your application is approved, the system should display a payment date.
However, some applicants may still see statuses such as “pending” or “declined” while verification and eligibility checks continue behind the scenes.

SASSA is also reminding beneficiaries to regularly confirm that their banking and personal details are correct to avoid payment delays.
Because nothing ruins your mood faster than discovering your money took a scenic tour to the wrong account.
The SRD grant continues to be paid monthly in batches, and while processing dates may vary, funds usually reflect a few days after payment has been processed.
