Kelly Khumalo hires attorney to conduct watching brief in Senzo Meyiwa trial

Kelly Khumalo is keeping a very close eye on the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

The murder trial of Kelly Khumalo's ex-boyfriend, Senzo Meyiwa, is underway.

According to the South AfricanKelly Khumalo has arranged a watching brief for the trial.

A watching brief is a method normally used in criminal cases by lawyers to represent clients not directly a party to the suit and to function as an observer. The method is normally used to help protect the rights and interests of victims of a crime, or also to protect a defendant from possible malicious prosecution. - Wikipedia

Kelly Khumalo, "The Voice of Africa", has hired attorney, Magdalene Moonsamy, to represent her at the trial, which was set to start in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday 11 April.

Senzo was killed in an alleged armed robbery at Kelly’s home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014; she was one of six people at the house when the alleged robbery took place. 

At the time, Kelly’s sister, mother, her sister's boyfriend, two of Senzo's friends and her children were in the house at the time of the incident.

“The most important thing is to get to a final conclusion and closure for the nation and the world,” said Magdalene to the South African..

It has been reported that the case was delayed as advocate Zandile Mshololo, representing Fisokuhle, told the court that they were not ready to proceed with the hearing.

The alleged suspects are:

  • Muzikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya
  • Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi
  • Mthobisi Prince Mncube
  • Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa
  • Fisokuhle Ntuli

The documentary, "Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star" was released on  Netflix on 7 April 2022 and has put an even bigger spotlight on the case.
