The eThekwini Municipality has introduced a new digital recruitment platform aimed at improving how job applications are handled. The Digitally You e-Recruitment Job Application Portal is now live, with vacancies set to be published from Friday, 10 April. The system is designed to create a more efficient, fair and transparent process for all applicants

Why has the job portal been introduced?

The launch marks a shift away from the municipality’s previous paper-based system, which had been paused since December to allow for the transition. The move forms part of broader efforts to modernise recruitment processes, address inefficiencies and rebuild public trust in how municipal vacancies are filled.

What changes does the new system bring?

According to IOL, the new platform consolidates all recruitment processes into a single digital system. This replaces fragmented procedures and aims to improve service delivery while ensuring fairness, dignity and transparency for applicants. The municipality has indicated that the system is fully operational and ready to support upcoming job listings.

How does the portal improve fairness and transparency?

The platform has built-in features that promote merit-based recruitment. Applications are automatically screened, submissions are confirmed and missing documents are flagged. Applicants are also notified immediately if they meet the minimum requirements. These features are intended to reduce uncertainty, delays and the risk of fraudulent activity, including job scams.

What can applicants expect when using the portal?

Users can create profiles, upload required documents and prepare their applications in advance. This allows for a smoother process once vacancies become available. The system is accessible via mobile devices, making it easier for applicants to complete submissions at any time.

What have officials said about the initiative?

Chairperson of the Governance and Human Resources Committee, Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala, said the system reflects a commitment to ethical governance and improved performance. He noted that it eliminates inefficiencies while strengthening accountability and ensuring that recruitment is conducted on merit.

How have job seekers responded?

Some applicants have welcomed the change, citing convenience and improved transparency. The ability to apply digitally and receive immediate feedback has been highlighted as a key benefit, particularly in restoring confidence in the application process.

Where can the portal be accessed?

The Digitally You system is available on the eThekwini Municipality website under the jobs section, where applicants can register and prepare for upcoming vacancies. Click here to access it.
