Couple in their 90s finally have their dream wedding after 64 years together
A Kenyan couple in their 90s has captured hearts after tying the knot in a church wedding more than six decades after they first fell in love, proving it’s never too late to walk down the aisle.
A heartwarming love story from Kenya is once again making the rounds online, reminding people that age is no barrier to celebrating love.
According to several media reports, 95-year-old Ibrahim Mbogo and his longtime partner, Tabitha Wangui, exchanged vows in a white wedding in 2024 after spending 64 years together. They reportedly held their wedding at Tambaya PCEA Church in Mukurweini.
The couple reportedly met in 1960 and, although they had long been regarded as married under Kikuyu custom, they decided to have a Christian church wedding to honour their faith.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mbogo explained their decision.
“We met and fell in love in 1960. We deliberated together and decided it would be great if we did a white wedding. We know in our Kikuyu custom that we are legally married, but since we are also Christian, we decided to do a church wedding.”
Wangui also shared what she believes is the secret to a long-lasting relationship.
“Women must respect their husbands. If you do that, then you will live as we have."
A photo of the couple shared by Citizen Digital shows the bride dressed elegantly in white with a matching hat and Mbogo in a grey suit.
The couple’s decision highlights how cultural traditions and religious beliefs can both play meaningful roles in marriage. It is not clear whether the pair have children, but their love story has inspired many by showing that it is never too late to celebrate love in the way that feels right for you.
