Could adjusting your mirrors this way help decrease SA’s road carnage?
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Like many South Africans, Carol is disturbed by the high death toll on South Africa’s roads.
The Easter long weekend ended earlier this week, and while a lot of people got to spend time with their families, some unfortunately will be burying their loved ones following a spate of road accidents.
The holiday period ended on a tragic note for many families.
Nine people were killed on Monday night in a multiple vehicle collision on KZN’s South Coast. Three children were among those killed.
This is just one of many crashes that occurred on South Africa’s roads this Easter, and traffic officials expect the death toll to be higher than last year.
There are many reasons why we have so many accidents on our roads, including bad driving and unroadworthy vehicles.
But I came across something that I believe could, maybe, possibly, decrease the number of crashes in SA.
I am not an expert, but just hear me out.
I always wondered how one should adjust their mirrors, and once I watched this video I decided I would try it.
I have been driving with my mirrors this way for a day now and it startled me sometimes because cars appeared at times that normally wouldn't.
That of course is the blind spot I had been missing.
It takes a while getting used to this new adjustment, but I can see how it could reduce road accidents.
However, please still glance over your shoulder, just to be 100% safe.
