The spouse or the mother - Who gets the front seat?

Riding shotgun has its pros and cons, but it becomes a messy situation when you have to choose who gets to sit in the front between your mother and your spouse...

When it comes to travelling by car, the further away from the steering wheel I am, the better.

I am not the girl who loves the open highway, in fact, if I never drove again, I would be happy. I far prefer sitting in the passenger seat in charge of music and refreshments.

When we hit the road with my parents, my mom and I opt for the backseat and leave Mr T in the front with my dad. If it's just Mr T, my mom, and I, hubby usually drives and I ride shotgun while mom is in the back. No issues.

While it may be a no-brainer on our end, it doesn't seem the case for one KZN woman. She sent me a voice note to tell me how she felt she didn't need to leave her front seat spot to give way to her mother-in-law to be, and how her boyfriend was upset with her for not giving her seat up.

I think allowing the mom to sit in the front seat because 'it's out of respect' is quite an old school way of thinking. For us, we sit how the conversation flows, and hey, as long as each one has a seat, right?
