The unofficial KZN festive season survival guide
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
This is your fun, local guide to surviving the KZN festive season with your sanity intact.
Festive season in KwaZulu-Natal is beautiful. Magical. Unforgettable.
It’s also a sport that needs strategy and planning.
So, here’s how to survive it with your sanity (mostly) intact.
Rule 1: Claim your beach spot like a professional
Early arrival is key.
If someone asks, “Is this spot taken?” - Yes. Always say yes.
Rule 2: Pace yourself at the braai
There’s no prize for being full by 1pm.
Eat strategically. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
Rule 3: The cooler box is sacred
Touching someone else’s cooler box without permission is an international crime.
Proceed carefully.
Rule 4: Expect family debates and choose peace
Politics. Music. Who made the better potato salad.
Just smile, nod and grab another plate.
Rule 5: Dress for all four seasons
Expect sunburn at 10am and a slight thunderstorm at 3pm.
Always carry a hoodie. Trust us.
Rule 6: Don’t fight the traffic, accept it
In December, you’re not stuck in traffic.
You are the traffic.
Rule 7: Have an exit plan
Whether it’s a nap, a swim or an “early night” that turns into something else, know when to disappear.
Rule 8: Let East Coast Radio do the heavy lifting
Keep calm and keep it locked onto East Coast Radio. We'll worry about the music and keeping you in the festive mood.
Think less. Vibe more.
