Still waiting on the sardines
Updated | By ECR & Vinesh Soogreem
Beautiful conditions this weekend along the East Coast despite the cooler temperatures. Fishing expert Vinesh Soogreem says there's plenty to keep you entertained while we wait for the main event.
Surfing and fishing conditions this weekend
Two-meter swells with offshore winds make it ideal for shortboard action. For anglers, rocky points are firing with shad, bream, and cod. Deep holes are worth exploring for Garrick, the gentleman of the sea. Even if you're not getting wet, golden beaches with a light jacket offer the perfect KZN vibe.
Where are the sardines?
The question on every East Coaster's lips. Water temperature is currently 23 degrees, but sardines need 19 degrees. Expect real action in two to three weeks as we head into the school holidays. Ignore the viral videos circulating—if you see sardines right now, it's last year's news.
Full moon fish myth busted
Does fishing go off during a full moon? Vinesh says it's definitely a myth. While daytime fishing may be tougher because fish have been feeding all night, full moons actually trigger more feeding activity during spring tides.
