Shad numbers explode along KZN coast
Fishing conditions off KZN’s coastline have picked up over the past week, with winter conditions settling in and bringing solid surf fishing. Shad are showing in good numbers along much of the coast.
In the latest Angler News South Africa podcast episode, Vinesh Soogreem and the crew report the first garrick are starting to appear, with anglers also finding rockcod, kob, bronze bream, and the odd kingfish.
Central and South Coast fishing
The central coast has had some dirty water, but there are still fish around. The South Coast, particularly around Uvongo, has been fishing consistently with GTs and rock species showing.
Offshore fishing
Offshore has improved, with geelbek, daga salmon, and snoek in the catches, particularly further north where deeper water has held better fish. Durban has been fairly reliable, while further south, anglers have had to work harder around changing conditions.
Inland fishing
Cooler temperatures have lifted stillwater trout fishing, with good results, while river fishing is slowing as the season winds down. Yellowfish are still active in some systems. Bass fishing has been quieter, but a few fish are still being caught.
Conditions are improving heading into the weekend.
