South Africa abstained from making any decision regarding the condemnation of Russia's attacks on Russia at the UN General Assembly. 

People are currently asking that the government make it clear where the country stands in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine

One would easily assume SA is for these attacks especially with how friendly the country has been with Russia on social media. 

Russian embassy thanked South Africans for their support and solidarity in a tweet posted yesterday (5 March 2022). 

“Dear subscribers, we have received a great number of letters of solidarity from South Africans, both individuals and organisations.

“We appreciate your support and glad you decided to stand with us today, when Russia, like 80 years ago, is fighting Nazism in Ukraine!”

The ANCYL is one of the political organisations in SA that are openly stating where they stand. 

They condemned the use of heavy weapons in a tweet that the Russian embassy in South Africa retweeted.

“The African National Congress Youth League, the largest Youth movement in the continent calls on the government of South Africa, the Africa Union, and the continent at large to defend the rights of all countries in the world to affirm their sovereignty.

“We call on the youth in Africa to reject this despotic nature of EU and USA’s conduct."
