Full moon brings the fish across KZN

The KZN coastline has settled into a classic winter rhythm, with anglers enjoying steady action across all regions.

In the latest Angler News South Africa podcast episode, Vinesh Soogreem and the crew report on what's biting from the North Coast to the South Coast and inland.

North Coast fishing

Rock and surf anglers are finding good numbers of shad and kob, particularly around structure and deeper access points during the spring tides. Garrick have become a familiar appearance throughout the week.

Durban coastal fishing

Durban's central coastline has been slightly inconsistent due to patches of dirty water, but anglers putting in the hours are being rewarded with shad, stumpnose, and grey sharks. Spinner sharks are also becoming more active.

South Coast action

Fishing has been quieter overall, although Uvongo Pier continues to shine with catches on both live bait and lures. Grey sharks and rockcod remain active.

Offshore fishing

Winter has switched the fishing into top gear with the North Coast leading the charge. Snoek, couta, and quality bottom species dominate catches. Durban has also produced excellent offshore action with solid snoek runs and consistent bottom fishing, while the South Coast has rewarded patient anglers who timed the weather windows correctly.

Freshwater fishing

Trout rivers are now officially closed until September for spawning season, but yellowfish enthusiasts are enjoying productive sessions on clear moving water.

Anglers travelling through the Midlands are urged to remain mindful of strict Foot and Mouth Disease biosecurity measures currently in place, including mandatory vehicle spray stations in the Kamberg and Giant's Castle areas.
