In a thrilling season finale, the curtains have closed on another vibrant and competitive season of MasterChef South Africa.
This year, the prize went to Benjie, a resilient contestant from the Northern Cape who has diligently showcased his culinary prowess and astonishing creativity.
East Coast Breakfast recently had the privilege of speaking to Benjie about his journey and what the future holds for South Africa's newest culinary superstar.

For months, viewers have followed the intense competition, where contestants were gradually eliminated, culminating in this uplifting victory.
Benjie, a high voltage electrical line maintenance specialist by day, has demonstrated that passion and skill in the kitchen can take a person far, even to the very top of South Africa's most esteemed cooking show.
When asked about the moment his name was announced as the winner, Benjie shared a touching reflection: "Even if I didn't win, making it this far was an accomplishment. I was already satisfied just to be there."
Friendship and farewells
His journey wasn’t without emotional hurdles. Benjie formed a close bond with his fellow contestant, Candice.
Despite their camaraderie, the bittersweet victory meant seeing a friend fall short of the grand prize. “People started calling us brother and sister,” said Benjie, acknowledging the shared experiences that brought them together.
The signature dishes that wowed the judges
Benjie's culinary creativity astounded the judges, particularly with his innovative twists on classic dishes.
Darren even recalled his standout creations, such as Benjie's "two-minute noodles crêpe Suzette" and a meticulously crafted three-course meal served in the final.
The judges were left speechless at his perfection, with his pork belly dish being especially praised for its impeccable execution.

What lies ahead for Benjie
Though the challenges of the competition proved mentally and physically exhausting, with Benji himself admitting he needed a vacation, he is optimistic about the future.
He told the East Coast Breakfast team, "I still love my day job, but there's a place for both [the job and cooking] in my life."
Plans for a future where noodles play a central role in his culinary explorations are already swirling in his mind. A cookbook dedicated to the versatility of the humble noodle might not be far from reality.
