A tourist gave putting his foot in it a whole new meaning when he posed on the Van Gogh crystal-covered chair at the Palazzo Maffei in Verona, Italy

The Italian museum, Palazzo Maffei, reported the most unlikely of incidents to the Italian authorities after two tourists decided to pose for a photo at the museum, causing major mayhem.

According to The Guardian, "Video footage released by Palazzo Maffei in Verona showed the hapless pair photographing each other pretending to sit on a crystal-covered chair made by the artist Nicola Bolla – described by the museum as an “extremely fragile” work."

We don't see the woman posing for the photo, but according to The Guardian, she squatted while the man could not hold the pose and ended up falling back on the chair, breaking it. The chair is covered in Swarovski crystals and is a priceless piece of art and history.

The museum described the incident as a "nightmare" and warned tourists to "respect art". The chair has since been repaired. The couple were said to have fled the museum before the museum staff noticed the damage.

According to News.Artnet, "The sculpture is, of course, named after the Dutch Post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890), and is specifically inspired by his masterfully executed still life of the humble chair with woven reed seat that furnished his famous “Yellow House” in Arles, France."

This was a 'break and dash' case, and this couple will forever be known as the Van Gogh chair breakers...
