The 'men with sisters are hotter' theory explained
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Does growing up with sisters make men better boyfriends and husbands in adulthood?
Siblings fight like cats and dogs growing up, but they learn many lessons from each other, especially about conflict resolution.
According to social media users, there's another major benefit that not enough people talk about - growing up with sisters makes men better boyfriends and husbands.
They call it the 'men with sisters are hotter' theory.
Internet users have been debating the theory for years, but the topic is under scrutiny again in 2026.
The theory supports the belief that men who have female siblings learn certain things about women growing up that make them better partners.
Some of the reasons social media users shared include:
- Better communicators: They become better listeners.
- More emotionally aware: They are not afraid to discuss their feelings.
- Comfortable with 'women's issues': They understand women's experiences and challenges.
- Respect their partners: They know how to treat women with respect and tend to be more patient.
Basically, sisters make their brothers more dateable.
However, not everyone agrees. "If you only could have met my sister ... one of the worst human beings on the planet," one man wrote on Instagram.
A second person commented: "Always said this, but I've also met the exception to the rule."
Others said that mothers play a greater role in shaping the type of man your partner becomes than your sisters do.
"It all depends on the mother who raised the boy."
Singer Alessia Cara is a big fan of the theory. The 'Growing Pains' singer, who has two brothers and a sister, shared her thoughts on the topic while sharing her dating hot take.
"This might be a little controversial. Maybe we shouldn't trust men without sisters," she said in an interview with 'Cross Walk Crush' earlier this year.
Cara says growing up with sisters helps them better understand women.
"In my scientific findings, I have found - don't mean to offend anyone - men who grow up with sisters experience women from an early age as multifaceted human beings.
"Whereas if you don't grow up with women, you see them as one-dimensional, and you're seeing women as something to obtain or chase," she added.
However, Care explained that does not mean you can trust all men with sisters.
