Yann Moix, a 50-year-old popular French author and television presenter - who has won several literary prizes and directed three films, has shocked the nation over his recent comments about loving a woman over the age of 50.

The Guardian reports that he told a magazine: "Come on now, let’s not exaggerate! That’s not possible … too, too old.” He also added that mature women are "invisible' to him and that a younger woman is 'extraordinary'.

Some people didn’t even bother to respond in writing, they merely posted pictures of celebrities over 50 like Halle Berry and Jennifer Aniston on social media. Others took to Twitter to express their views on Moix's comments.

Check out their reactions below:

I think it’s great that he’s honest about what he likes, especially since he must have known it would offend many. I would much rather people be honest and open about their prejudices instead of hiding them under a facade of what is socially acceptable. For me, at the end of the day – it’s his personal opinion, and his likes and dislikes don’t really have anything to do with anyone else.

However, there is something about his comment that just rubs me up the wrong way. Is it because he just happens to be 50 himself? I wonder what women over 50 think of him?

What do you make of this author's comments?
