A video of a Home Affairs official at the Beitbridge border post is causing quite the stir on social media

In the clip, you can see the woman being distracted by her phone, checking her Facebook and WhatsApp messages while she's supposed to be on duty stamping passports.

Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, has spoken up after the video went viral, saying that he has called for an investigation to take place.

'I was this morning informed about the video circulating on social media platforms, and have asked the Department of @HomeAffairsSA to investigate this matter and take swift action against the official,' he said in a Tweet this past Wednesday.

According to Times Live, Director-General of Home Affairs Mkuseli Apleni has said that there are disciplinary measures that will be in place for the supervisors who were supposed to be monitoring staff while on duty. He has also said that the staff member in question violated the policy of using a cellphone at her workstation while on duty.

Let's be honest, while we may not be Home Affairs officials, we are all guilty of browsing through our cellphones while at work. I guess it depends on the industry you're in? However, eyebrows will be raised if you're in a position where you have to pay attention to something as important as a passport.
