#UnpopularOpinion: Women should keep the ring even if they end the engagement

A listener believes a ring is a gift and there should be no reason to return it once things are over.

A KZN listener sent us a message explaining why she doesn’t think women should return the ring if they break off an engagement.

Read below and tell us what you think.

Dear Damon

My unpopular opinion is that women’s don’t have to give back the engagement ring if they decide not to go through with the wedding or if the guy pulls out.

I don’t get why it’s so frowned upon in society if you keep the ring.

It’s a gift to me, that you gave it to me because you love me. Why now must I bring it back because things didn’t work out

In fact letting us keep the ring is the least these men can do cause most likely the relationship ended because of something they said or did.

If we are over the man should in fact be grateful that I kept the ring because why would he want something that reminds them of me?

I think wanting the ring back is very spiteful and petty and it shows you never loved the person in the first place.

The worst part is when a guy takes the same ring and then proposes to his next girlfriend with it.

Like really, you picked that ring out for me and now you’re just gonna give it to someone else, wow.

So to all the women of KZN I say, if a man proposes and things don’t work out for some reason, keep the ring honey.
