South Africa is about to have a MAJOR moment on the global stage.

Grammy-winning superstar Tyla has officially been announced as one of the headline performers at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico next month.

The tournament kicks off on 11 June at the iconic Mexico City Stadium, with the opening ceremony taking place 90 minutes before the first match of the tournament.

That first match is none other than South Africa vs Mexico.

So yes, imagine this timeline: TYLA performs, the crowd loses its mind, and then Bafana Bafana walk onto the pitch.

South Africa basically said: “We’ll handle the entertainment and the football, thanks.”

Tyla joins international star-studded lineup

FIFA also confirmed the opening ceremony lineup, featuring several major Latino artists including J Balvin, Danny Ocean and Lila Downs.

The Johannesburg-born artist continues her unbelievable rise on the global stage after dominating charts, fashion campaigns, award shows and basically every TikTok sound known to humanity.

Now she’s taking her sound to one of the biggest sporting events on Earth.

Not bad for someone who once uploaded music from South Africa hoping the world would notice.

What’s South Africa’s FIFA schedule?

The FIFA World Cup will run from 11 June to 19 July, with 48 countries competing across 16 stadiums and 104 matches.

South Africa is scheduled to face Mexico on 11 June, Czechia on 18 June and South Korea on 25 June

Historically, Bafana Bafana have never progressed beyond the group stage of the World Cup, but fans are hoping this year could finally change things.

And if Tyla’s performance is anything to go by, South Africa is already arriving with confidence.
