Durban areas affected by planned eThekwini water shutdown
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
The eThekwini municipality urges residents in the affected areas to be prepared and store water.
A communication notice by the eThekwini municipality informing residents of a planned water shutdown from midnight on 14 October to 15 October has created some buzz on WhatsApp groups.
The notice reads:
"EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN OF THE NORTHERN AQUEDUCT
Residents and businesses are notified of the interruption to the water supply in areas served by the Northern aqueduct system.
This is due to a significant leak on the Northern Aqueduct in the vicinity of the Piesang River, in Mount Moriah.
The City’s Water Service department discovered several leaks on the pipeline that supplies water to Phoenix Reservoirs 1 and 6.
To safely execute repair work, the operations teams will isolate the supply to the Northern Aqueduct.
Repair work will commence at midnight on Tuesday, 14 October and is anticipated to be completed on Wednesday, 15 October, in the morning."
Like all notices, the message was sent across multiple WhatsApp groups and published on the eThekwini Facebook page; however, not everyone received the communication.
