The woman who married her cats

Barbarella adopted the pair from a London animal shelter in 2000 and four years later - after a breakup with a human who she'd been in a long-term relationship with - she realised the kitties were her "soul mates" and decided to make it official. 

She ordered a marriage certificate online and promised a tin of tuna to celebrate and the rest, as they say, is history.

As whacky as being married to cats may sound, Barbarella told the Huffington Post that her love for Lugosi and Spider is "pure, spiritual, unconditional love, like a love you would have for a young child. In a way, they are my children, my little babies, and not just my companions". 

She went on to tell the online paper: 

"First of all, the marriage to my cats is for fun only and not legal or recognized in any country in the world ... They are my animal companions and not my boyfriends. What most people cannot understand though is that the love I feel for them can be, and is, just as deep as what one can feel for another human."

I am not sure what's more surprising: that she would marry her cats, or that there is actually this sort of service available.
