What you actually mean is…

Today is National Honesty Day in the USA - Darren decided to man-up and share what he used to do and say to impress the ladies back in the day!
Have you ever said something less than honest to someone and thought you would get away with it?
Of coarse I have done this before and I have to share a story from my past that caught up with me in the end because of a little creativeness with the truth.
Many many many years ago when I was a student and I didn’t quite have the moral fortitude that I have today, one of the things I used to do in order to get ‘lucky’ was to go out to pubs in Pretoria and assume to be a foreigner from some far off land.
I would try and pick up girls using different accents from France, Italy, Greece, Australia or one of the many dialects in England and America.
And this actually worked really well for me, young and impressionable students of Pretoria were most taken by this 'foreigner ' that had chosen to speak to them and spend time with them – problem with this of course is if you ever return to that pub and you bump into that same girl again you have to remember what accent you used, what your backstory was, otherwise it could become really awkward and embarrassing…
In fact it did become quite embarrassing – the one morning I woke up, went through to the kitchen to make breakfast and a lovely young lady joined me in the kitchen and when I greeted her and offered her a cup of coffee she became quite angry quite quickly!
I thought to myself maybe she isn’t a morning person – it turns out though that my very South African accent was most off putting to her because I successfully wooed this young lady the night before by pretending to be from Scotland and this was supposed to be an International romance and when it turned out that I was just poor old Darren Maule from Pretoria... wow! Suffice to say she was very disappointed.
And I think a very important lesson about lying was learned on that day by me.
The thing is when you tell one lie you have to tell many more just to keep from being caught out from telling that first one lie.
Now I don’t lie anymore… Not because it’s wrong, or morally reprehensible, it's because it takes too much work and too much concentration to keep up all the other lies to protect your first lie… '
Have you ever said something to someone before and thought you would get away with but in the end caught up with you?
