Sex Challenge takes unexpected turn

Sex Challenge takes unexpected turn

If you have been following the journey of our 30 Day Sex Challenge couple, Nonto and Mzwakhe, we have very BIG news, and it was totally unexpected.

You might wonder why the East Coast Breakfast team launched the 30 Day Sex Challenge.

Well, it all started when KZN urologist Dr Riaan Venter told us that having sex every day helps keep prostate cancer at bay.

Renowned sex therapist, Dr Eve, agreed - telling our listeners that the healthy release of hormones during and after sex improves intimacy and wellbeing, and she too said couples should aim to be intimate every day.

Every single day? Is this possible considering the stressful, busy lives we lead? An East Coast Breakfast poll showed this to be true, with most people in committed relationships admitting that sex, romance or even a cuddle was the last thing on their minds at the end of a hectic day juggling work, kids, traffic, deadlines and just daily life in general.

So we threw down the challenge to people in KZN who are in committed relationships. Mzwakhe and Nontobeko, who have been married for 10 years and have two beautiful children, decided to put the experts’ theories to the test. We deliberately chose the Kloof couple because their decade-long marriage is an example of a committed relationship and safe, responsible sex.

Everything was on track and the couple from Kloof were really enjoying the challenge but unfortunately Mzwakhe and Nontobeko had to withdraw from the challenge because of family concerns.

This is the email Nonto sent to our producer:

Dear George,

We have had a discussion with our family elders with regards to the challenge we took, unfortunately - as much as it has been so much fun for us - it doesn't sit well with them.

We have decided to withdraw from the challenge out of respect for the advice they’ve given us.

We are thankful for the opportunity, it would have been great to continue.

This morning Darren and Natarah chatted to Nonto more about why they decided to withdrawn from the on-air challenge – listen to it here:

The good news is, Nonto says that the past four days of the challenge have definitely brought them closer.

"What we've realised is that we must make time for each other," she says.
