Martians are from Durban bru!

Not one but two people from KZN have made it onto the last 100 short list for astronauts to leave Earth and colonise Mars.

The Mars One mission takes us all the way back to the adventures of old, the great adventurers who blazed a trail into previously unknown and hostile environments with little to no hope of return.

It’s the ‘not returning’ bit that freaks so many people out. Take nothing away from modern adventurers who scale great mountains or traverse great distances.

What they do and how they do it will always be the mainstay of a select few, but they do this with the knowledge that they just might make it back home, and that they probably will see their friends and family again.

The BIG difference is that the ones of old embarked on their adventures with the full knowledge that they might not return. Adventures and explorers like Roald Amundsen and his search for the Northwest Passage, Henry Stanley’s search for Dr Livingston, Marco Polo and Lewis and Clark.

When Mars One launches and lands on planet Mars, there is no return strategy. The Astronauts who embark on this mission know that it is a one way trip. Once that rocket has blasted off they will never ever set foot on planet Earth again.

They will be the first men and woman to step on, work on, and die on Mars. They know this, and they still want to go.

They are the most amazing adventurers alive today.

The only difference is; todays adventurers come with their own YouTube trailer:
