Young cancer patient shares her story with Jane

Earlier this week, Jane received an email from little Andrea.

Nine-year-old Andrea, who is from Phoenix, is battling cancer and wrote the letter to me from her hospital bed.

I was so moved by Andrea’s story. It seems so unfair for a child to suffer like this.

Read her letter to me below:

Good day Jane

I am a 9 and half year old girl from phoenix durban. I am currently admitted into ****** hospital as I have picked up an infection causing my temperature to be raised and I have serious mouth sores. I was diagnosed with stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma this means I have a tumour in my nostril which is cancerous. I have not been to school since July 2014. I have lost my left eye sight and my vision in my right is a blur. I have lost all my hair and do not want anyone to see me as I feel that people will think badly of me. Due to my illness I cant have any friends over due to infection and it is very easy for me to pick up infections. I am currently on my 20th day of radiation and the side effects are very bad. I would really love more then anything a karaoke set, my parents are unable to afford such a thing as the treatment expenses are too high.

Love Andrea.

After giving her a call, I was so moved by her strength and courage that I contacted Hi Fi Corp who very kindly sponsored Andrea a beautiful portable PA system and cordless mic.

At 12:30 today I will be phoning Andrea on-air to tell her the good news.
