FITballers: Colombia vs Germany
The foot work on the field is expected to intensify as each team’s members carry with them their country’s hopes of lifting that grand FIFA trophy. Today we take a good look at Colombia’s Mario Yepes, the captain of the national team and Germany’s Sami Khedira.
Colombia - Mario Yepes
Yepes is a 38-year-old centre back who made his debut in 1999. Since then, he’s played 100 matches for the national team.
During his career, the 1.86m footballer earned the nicknames, “Super Mario,” and, "El Rey.”
The father of three is married to Colombian, Carolina Villegas.
Germany - Sami Khedira
Khedira is a 27-year-old midfielder who also plays for Real Madrid. He signed a contract with the club in 2010, which is set to end next year.
The German made his debut for the senior national squad in a friendly against Bafana Bafana in 2009.
He has a younger brother who is a member of the Germany U17 team. Khedira is in a relationship with German model Lena Gercke. They’ve been together for three years.
