Facebook Free February

Facebook Free February

But is it more than just a faze? Jason debates the validity of a month without Facebook.

So... it is upon us.

It's like a revolution - but not. Because it's not in the real world.

But for some it is.

What am I talking about? The Facebook Free February movement... Basically  - it is an idea where people are asked to abstain ( love that word - as if it's like a sexual act or something) - from using Facebook... FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH!

It is apparently quite popular overseas but I don't think it would catch on here..In fact some folk in the industry say it is a ridiculous idea and social media usage has actually INCREASED since the inception of #FFF (it's in its fourth year)

I personally don't think I could last longer than a week... I would start itching and scratching and next thing you know there I am, all curled up and crying in the corner, cellphone in hand, with a fresh status update... Oh the shame. It would probably say something along the lines of : "Sorry. I just couldn't resist. To my friends ( real and otherwise) and family. I have shamed you. I cannot go on #logout."

Maybe it would be best to start with a Facebook Free Friday first?

So I want to know - would you abstain from FB for a month?

Why?

hree more weeks to jump on the online movement called "Facebook Free February." It challenges people to abstain from using Facebook for an entire month and seems to be more popular overseas, specifically in the UK, Ireland, and Australia. The idea apparently goes back at least as far as February 2012, so this will actually be the fourth Facebook Free February on record.
ERIK SASS of Social Media Daily suggests it's not a particularly effective movement, as the usage stats from comScore show the numbers of global and U.S. FB users have increased through every February since "FFF" began. - See more at: http://www.allaccess.com/ross-brittain#sthash.E4G2fejg.dpuf
