A curry spice to help stars like Rooney?
Updated | By tanstan fourie
The next time I cook a spicy curry at home, I'm going to be thinking about top soccer players like Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa. Here's why...
I've always known the old Indian spice turmeric contains powerful medicinal properties. My late grandmother who I watched cook with it always told me about its anti-inflammatory effects.
She told me that aside from giving the curry its yellow colour, the spice which comes from the ginger family is also very strong antioxidant.
So, I wasn't really surprised when I read that FIFA presented a report about turmeric and its main active ingredient: curcumin at a football medicine conference at the weekend.
The association wants to apparently introduce the spice as part of a remedy for Premier League players who've been injured. Its ability to reduce pain and inflammation would assist soccer stars with muscle injuries.
Experts at the Barcelona Olympic Training Centre conducted tests on people with delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). They found that those who consumed curcumin had significantly less pain.
I wonder whether Wayne Rooney likes his curry mild or spicy?
Which curry would you recommend for Premier League stars?
