Caught between a caravan and a seat
Updated | By Jason
So there I was doing my own thing on the road, seat belt on, review mirror in place keeping a safe following distance of the car in front of me.
Then out of nowhere, a van pulling a caravan decides to cut across the highway in front of me. I thought that this was the end. I was going to die a statistic all bloodied with a broken collar bone just for kicks.
I braked so hard, I thought the abs (anti-lock braking) system under me was going to start screaming at me for owner abuse! I stopped abruptly on the sidewalk in amongst bush and nature, thankful I was alive. The driver oblivious to what had happened carried on his business, driving away. This got me really angry! I cannot believe motorist still take chances with their lives on our roads! We hear about all the fatalities and carnage on our roads daily. I have put it down purely to irresponsible driving and careless owners. Firstly, make sure your car is roadworthy.
This means servicing it regularly. It is a machine and can break down. To avoid the inconvenience make sure a reputable service man handles the needful. It’s a must! Please don’t forget that you have a licence because the authorities saw you fit to drive. Please be aware of your surroundings! I don’t care if the road is named after you, it belongs to no one and everyone should respect that as well as other motorists.
The festive season is fast approaching and the highways around the country are going to get terribly busy. To that end, let us all be patient and courteous on our roads. I think it would go a long way in making everybody’s journey a happy one.
