Car fan talks the torque
If cars could talk, they would probably want to talk to this guy, all day long. That's because he speaks their language, literally!
20-year-old Ameer Shaik is fluent in hot cars with rip-roaring engines. He became a hit on Facebook this week after a friend of his published a short video that showcased Ameer's remarkable talent.
In the clip, he playfully challenges the Isipingo Hills resident to orally produce the sounds of various car engines revving.
Without the slightest hesitation, Ameer, who's an electrician by trade, shifts his vocal chords into gear before mimicking one astounding sound effect after another.
We loved his video so much, that we had to get him on-air. The problem was that we didn’t know who he is. There was no information on him on the clip. So we started an online search for Ameer and someone got back to us within minutes.
We had his name and number and soon we had a bashful Ameer on the line. He wasn’t keen on coming through for the interview at first but eventually warmed up to the idea.
Ameer told East Coast Breakfast it all started at a friend’s old car garage. He says, “He was doing tune-ups on cars. An old man brought in a V8, an old spec car. They told me to take it for a test drive to see what’s wrong with it.” Ameer says he really like the vehicle and started to mimic the sound the car made. He says, “When I started making these sounds, people thought it was cool and they told me I’ve got talent.”
Reshlan Pillai, Ameer’s buddy who filmed the clip says he first discovered Ameer’s talent in December when he asked his friend to provide some entertainment at a get together. He says they were amazed to hear the exact replication of certain car sounds.
Reshlan says they couldn’t help but record Ameer in action because this is something everyone would appreciate.
He says his gifted , happy-go-lucky friend can also imitate the sounds of a BMW 325is, a BMW 1M and various Toyota and Opel cars.
Darren, Natarah and Gabriel had lots of fun with the car fanatic yesterday. They also put him through his paces challenging him to mimic the sounds of a RunX 20-valve, a Mustang V8, an Opel OPC and Scirocco.
