The Big Favour: one woman, one dream
Updated | By Rory Petzer
There is something you possibly do everyday. It is also possibly something you hardly even notice, let alone fully appreciate. One woman hasn't done this for years. We're about to change that.
Magda Snowdon wrote in to the Big Favour asking for help with her 85-year-old mother, Martie van Staden.
Martie is in frail care and has been bedridden for around nine years after an unsuccessful back operation.
Martie has not even been outdoors in nine years.
All Martie wants is a chance to see the beachfront again - something most of us take for granted every single day.
Thanks to Chris Botha from Netcare 911, this simple, yet life-changing dream will become a reality for 85-year-old Martie.
Netcare 911 will fetch Martie from the frail care centre and take her to the Durban Promenade where they will lift her out of the ambulance on a stretcher so that she can lie and look at the ocean.
Martie will then be driven up and down the beachfront.
