Advert banned because model is too thin

A Yves Saint Laurent advert in a popular women's magazine has been banned because the model was deemed to be 'unhealthily underweight'.

I definitely have hearts in my eyes when I spot a swanky Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) handbag with its garish gold trim and oversized lettering… but man alive this ad campaign takes the cake. (Well, obviously not literally).

This YSL advert – which first appeared in a UK edition of Elle magazine – has been banned because the model was deemed unhealthily underweight by the Advertising Standards Authority.

In fact this poor undernourished being looks too exhausted and weak to even open her eyes let alone stand upright on her thin pins.

Thank goodness there is a moral compass somewhere that led to the banning of this advert.

According to the BBC, YSL and Elle UK have declined to comment on the banning of the ad.

This is a dangerous ideal to promote. What message is it sending out?

In an already turbulent body image world the industry should be pushing balance and health as opposed to malnourished skeletal frailness.

What do you think?
