A song for Ebola
Updated | By tanstan fourie
The song that was first released three decades ago to help fight famine in Africa is back, this time for Ebola....
One Direction, Chris Martin and Ellie Goulding are among the international stars who have lent their voices to help fight the horrificEbola outbreak on our continent.
I could not believe that the new Band Aid 30 single, "Do They Know it's Christmas?" brought in a million pounds after the music video was shown on the X-Factor in the UK. In fact, the remake of the 1984 classic raised this amount of money in just five minutes!
This makes me proud to be a human being. Ebola has already claimed more than five thousand lives, mostly in west Africa since late last year.
The effort to rid the world of this sinister outbreak should be a concerted one. One can argue that since alarm bells went off around the outbreak, the response in the beginning had been slow but things changed quickly. We have seen international medical teams descend on Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea in recent months. Even Facebook now has a button that users can click to make a donation online.
It's fascinating to see people opening up their hearts and wallets to help raise funds for victims of Ebola. It's about time we all stepped in to help. That is exactly the inspiration behind the song:
