VIDEO: Pompano on light tackle
I made my return to competitive fishing over the past weekend and won my personal battle with Jean Deysel in the process.
My bonito of 4kg was bigger than anything the Cell C Sharks flanker managed to catch at Quattro King of the Sea.
I also had two fish stolen by sharks and suspect that both of them were yellowfin tuna.
I saw one of the sharks as it broke the ocean surface at Protea Banks off Shelly Beach.
However, let me leave the rest of that story for a little later this week.
I took several photos at the competition headquarters at Pumula Beach and will share them and more details of my fishing experience soon.
Right now we go to the USA for what the anglers involved consider a large pompano.
These fish do get a fair bit bigger here in South Africa.
The anglers in our footage also refer to permit and they are fish that grow bigger than even our biggest pompano here in KZN.
